The Quality Lever: How to Build a Product You’re Proud Of

Each day, we face product quality decisions as product managers. We are asked to balance multiple constraints against challenging market dynamics.

The decisions we make around product development have consequences. Apple apologized to users after releasing a lackluster Maps app in 2012. Dominoes doubled its revenue after improving the quality of its product and service in 2018. Toyota would win the low end market in 1957 before moving upmarket in the auto industry. Peloton had to recall its next-gen treadmill product in 2022 leading to its eventual downfall. Each of these outcomes were impacted by quality decisions.

John Zilch is a Senior Director of Product for SugarCRM. Over ten years of product leadership across several companies, John has seen it all. He’s built both good and bad products. He’s inherited tech products in need of a full makeover. Ultimately, he’s learned how a product leader can and should optimize for quality. He’ll discuss why product quality is the most critical – and yet often overlooked – facet of a product release. John will help answer the all-important questions around pulling the “quality lever” and building something truly great. How do we gauge the right level of quality for our customers? How does quality relate to product strategy? How does one advocate for prioritizing for this over dates or scope? What kind of team do we need to close on product excellence?

So, please come join us for this session and let’s normalize building great products.
