Diversity & Inclusion at BPMA
When we come together, we build better products and better communities for all.
We have always said that everyone is welcome at BPMA. But recent world-wide protests remind us that words alone are not sufficient. Going beyond words, BPMA will actively seeking to increase diversity & inclusion for both BPMA and the broader product management/product marketing community as well. We have started this process by taking the following actions and hope you and your colleagues will get involved.
(1) New board-level position to lead BPMA’s Diversity & Inclusion Committee
We are now accepting nominations to join the BPMA Board of Directors as the Director of Diversity and Inclusion. This is a unique opportunity to guide and shape diversity and inclusion at both BPMA and within the broader community.

(2) BPMA Diversity & Inclusion Statement
The BPMA Board of Directors has adopted this formal Diversity Statement encompassing all aspects of BPMA:
BPMA welcomes all current and aspiring product managers and product marketers, regardless of race, color, ethnicity, age, gender, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, religion, creed, ancestry, national origin, disability or veteran status.
When we come together, we build better products and better communities for all.
(3) BPMA Product Executives Forum (PEF) Discussions
PEF has held two round-table discussions on diversity in July and August, hosted by Neil Baron. Thanks to Neil for his extensive research and outreach to local and national black product leaders.
This is just the start. Much more work still needs to be done so that diversity and inclusion are woven into the very fabric of everything that we do at BPMA across programs, content, volunteers and leadership. Equally important, we will seek to drive change in companies and product organizations, and in the very products that we create and market.
I welcome your input on this important initiative. Please contact me and/or send me a message in BPMA Slack at @steve. I am excited about the coming dialog and hard work ahead of us.
